Dr. Arthur featured in article on rural healthcare

July 2017

Dr. Nicole Arthur (left), a family practice physician with Obstetrics at North Baldwin Family Medicine, was recently interviewed by journalist, Jilian Mincer, for an article published on Reuters.com.

Many hospitals in rural America are closing or scaling back their maternity departments due to insurance costs, staffing costs, and low volume of patients. This lack of access poses a risk for expectant mothers who live in rural communities.

In the article, Mincer highlights the effort of North Baldwin Infirmary to provide access to obstetrics to the rural community of Bay Minette, AL, and the surrounding area.

“It’s important to have access (to obstetrics). Where the mother goes for care, the rest of the family will follow.” -Ben Hansert, North Baldwin Infirmary president
