Are you struggling to hold yourself accountable with your resolution for a better, healthier you? With Scale Back Alabama, not only do you have a partner to motivate you, but you also trim down your waistline and pick up healthier habits through the competition. This 9-week weight-loss program has helped Alabamians lose more than 1.3 million pounds since January 2007, while awarding the top weight-loss participants with cash prizes.

TIP #1:

Skipping a meal is not recommended as a weight-loss strategy. This can cause you to feel hungrier by the next mealtime, which can lead to overeating. Instead, try to plan and eat healthier meals and snacks that offer a wide variety of nutrients while cutting calories.

Example: Celery Sticks with Cream Cheese, Apple Slices with Peanut Butter, Greek Yogurt and Mixed Berries

TIP #2:

Doing strength-training activities like lifting weights on a regular basis can build strong muscles that help you burn more calories. To strengthen muscles you can lift weights, use resistance bands, do push-ups or crunches, and do household activities that require you to lift or dig.

TIP #3:

Stay hydrated! Did you know that drinking water can boost metabolism by 24-30% over a period of 1-1.5 hours, simultaneously helping you burn off a few more calories? Drink up!
